In short

TrueStory Africa is a strategic communications and public relations (PR) firm and consultancy in Kigali, Rwanda. We work as the communications team for governments, UN agencies, NGOs and companies: communication strategies and plans, messaging frameworks, advocacy and behaviour change campaigns, donor visibility, stakeholder engagement and executive communications for health, education, agriculture and climate programmes. We take assignments across East Africa, including Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi and the DRC. We also produce documentation and content for social and behaviour change communication (SBCC) campaigns, such as the Hafiyawe positive parenting campaign with MIGEPROF, RBA and UNICEF in Musanze.

Clients often ask us for

A communication strategy or plan (we share a simple strategy template with your team), a messaging framework, donor visibility that meets EU and UN visibility guidelines and requirements, press releases and media relations, public awareness and community mobilisation campaigns, social and behaviour change communication (SBC and SBCC) consultancy, crisis communication support, communications for World Bank-funded projects, and an outsourced communications team on retainer. We work as communications consultants to UN agencies, NGOs, ministries and businesses, and help organisations communicate their impact clearly.

We worked with TrueStory Africa for documentary coverage during a field assignment and the experience was excellent throughout. The team was professional, respectful in communities and very strong at capturing authentic moments naturally. The final visuals were powerful and professionally edited.

Questions people ask

Can you work with our own communications team?

Yes. We can support your team, cover a gap for a few months, or lead one campaign from start to finish.

Which languages do you work in?

English, French and Kinyarwanda.

How long does a strategy take?

It depends on the size of the programme. We agree the timeline and the steps in the written quote.

What does a communication strategy include?

Your goals and audiences, key messages, the channels and content for each audience, a timeline and the way you will measure results. It is written so your team can use it every day.

Do you also produce the content?

Yes. The same team writes, photographs and films, so the strategy becomes stories, videos and posts without handing over to another agency.

Can you help with donor visibility rules?

Yes. We plan visibility to meet donor and partner requirements, including logos and acknowledgements, and check every product against them before it goes out.

Do you work with government institutions?

Yes. We work within government and United Nations protocol, branding and approval procedures, with written consent from every person we photograph or film.

Can you support a launch or an international day?

Yes. We plan the message, produce the content in advance and cover the day itself, with a first selection of photos the same day.

How much does a communication strategy cost?

It depends on the scope, the number of days and the locations. Send a short brief and you will receive a clear written quote within two working days. No work starts before you approve it.

How do we start working with you?

Send a brief through the website, WhatsApp or email. We reply within a few hours, agree the goals on a short call, then send the scope, timeline and price in writing.
